What is a flooring underlay ?
It is a thin foam pad, usually made of polyethylene or polypropylene, which is placed on the bottom layer before installing the floor. At present, most floors on the market need to be installed with floor mats.
Why are floor mats necessary?
The floor is not nailed or glued, so it needs some form of cushioning between the floor and the ground to make it easy to suspend. Imagine the floor as a big puzzle, with the expansion and change of climate change. In order to avoid any damage caused by friction between the floor and the ground, the floor mat must be laid first to make the back of the floor smooth for suspension.
